THE JUNE 16TH.
Since I can remember, my elders have always always told me this about the June 16th:It is a day whereby we remember our students who died from police brutality in 1976.From my knowledge the students were protesting against the Bantu education, which enforced them to be taught in Afrikaans in all their languages.
Now people I think i`m very worried about the value of this day, because it seems like many of us have lost the real definition of the day.I think the current Youth League is not as vibrant and goal driven as the 1976 youth were. The first thing that rings on the youth of today when you talk about the June 16, is going to the beach and maybe drinking alcohol till dawn.I think this is a problem and a very big one.
